This was an amazing night of music; a part of the Event Horizon concert series. After a lengthy but smooth setup of electronics (I had some minor issues with things not working), and all the video equipment and projectors in place, all was set. Before i played the band Kohotek played an amazing set of improvisations as a trio that featured Travis Woodson on guitar (who was burning). After their amazing set we entered the stage. The hour plus solo improvisation was challenging to me, it was like a puzzle at times, very intense at times, like a struggle, twisting and turning, and searching. I had a new rig that offered me more flexiblity and options, and randomness to my looping as i was using 3 loopers in various ways. Another addition to the rig was Samplr, running on an iPad which was inline through my pedal board, but the way i used it was by sampling my guitar via the amps using the interal mic of the iPad. This worked great. Once the guitar phrase or sound was in Samplr, I could manipulate in it in many ways. This has opened up an entire new sound world to me. I want to figure out how to put it inline next.
The evening had a very profound deep affect on me and the music ended with a long bowing piece which I transformed in various ways. The set ended in a place of light, beauty, and peacefulness. The visuals were a big part of the evening, (photo above) although I could not see realtime as they were above me, but will look forward to seeing the video of the night. Everyone there was blown away, i believe — a wonderful audience.
