February 6 Harold Prince Theatre at the Annenberg
Ursula Rucker My Fathers Daughter
World Premiere
This is an amazing work that Ursula is sharing with everyone,  very heavy, very inspiring…opening up about her family growing up and how it shaped her.it’s a deep journey to go through it. Writing initially was many mornings in my studio working playing and crying…very deep…cathartic.
We worked in my studio with all of the poems, added music, Jenny Tibbels (director) helped with arranging, we all worked together to throw out ideas to get the framework of the piece up…it was magic. many of my initial music explorations landed in the ballpark that would be the music for the first two performances…shaped by blues, deep soul, even late 50’s pop/soul/harmonic structures…i choose both of my danelectro’s and my fender vibrochamp for the sonic palette, and of course all the pedals…
we worked hard for weeks on this, i broke for a week to tour with Julie Slick, Marco Machera, Pat Mastelotto…and then the debut week at the Annenberg rehearsing, staging, and running the show. Deep in.
The debut night, we were very nervous, and had no idea how the audience would react…it was very uplifting…lots of laughs, lots of crying…lots of joy…it touched many who came. a work in progress. we are very excited for tomorrow. Buzzing.
