its been a wild whirlwind unfolding future…backtracking-visited Norway recently as guests of Punkt festival thrown by Norwegian luminaries Jan Bang and Eric Honore (both producers working with artists Jon Hassel, David Sylvian, and Brian Eno) the festival included Supersilent musicians Arve Henriksen, Helge Sten (aka Deathprod), Susanna and the Magic Mountain, Russell Mills, BJ Cole, Maja Ratjke, Guy Sigsworth, Sweet Billy Pilgrim, and so many wonderful artists…Fiona Talkington was the host from the bbc show late night junction. also, there was a world premiere of director Phil Hopkins inspiring film ‘amplified gesture’ exploring the improvising musicians that take part on David Sylvians new album ‘Manafon’. i played with Ursula there, after our set Jan Bang, Dino Deanne, and Adam Rudolph remixed our set fabulously in the theatre below. I was invited to play the closing piece: Exits the following evening with Jan, Arve Henriksen, Adam Rudolph, Eric Honore, BJ Cole, Eiven Arset…such an amazing festival, and wonderful people. i’ve had a long love for music of Norway for years being a big fan of ECM records and RuneGramafon. wonderful to meet, hang, and play with everybody. A wonderful feeling at the Punkt Festival-very inspiring.
back to USA: a few shows with Ursula including one with the Roots at Brooklyn Bowl) that was plagued with sound and monitoring issues that unfortunately derailed our attempt at a great set…
Dance: scored a piece—Iroquois—for Manfred Fischbeck’s group motion dance company which was previewed along the parkway and Philadelphia Museum of Art steps this past September and October called City Dances/Parkway via a grant from PNC Bank.
Currenly, deep in the studio finishing producing/mixing the latest Grimace Federation record; the new Ursula Rucker album; very excited about GoldBug-a new group and album featuring Eric Slick, Theo Travis, myself, and Barry Meehan in extended mutations and improvised orchestrations.
Working on a record with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Gintas Janusonis-BANDIT65-and, of course, GOJJO, with Markus Reuter, John Swana, Doug Hirlinger…Finally!…Oscillations Quartet w/ Ari Hoenig, John Swana, and Anthony Tidd…two days of recording at Ant Tidd’s studio here in Philadelphia. Some of these records should be available first quarter 2010…more to come….i will be posting some live BASE3 at 1k, and myspace soon…we are assembling a potential live album of our world tour in Philly from the last few months…some burning stuff…
