it’s a crazy time. images of michael jackson in pajamas showing up for court late, iraq’s continued crisis, saudi threats by us, bush ok’ing to pump oil out of alaskan wildlife refuge,…it goes on and on…and it’s all just insanity. well, here in my small world in philly, the music goes on. yesterday we finished up the sister gertrude morgan album – king britt + i with mastering guru pete humphreys…amazing day that left me drained.

glad we can be putting together some music with sister gertrudes messages aimed at the world. our world needs to hear her. i think these original songs were recorded in mid 60’s…and reached a very limited audience then…and even with the release of the original voice and tamborine songs – a very small market…but with this new re-interpretation release a chance for her voice to find a much wider audience to resonate and fill with hope. this beautiful important soon to be a classic record will be released in may 2005 on ropeadope records. and we hope it can do it’s own little part to bring some light into the world, all from a voice that created a ripple in new orleans in the 60’s. and this ripple still hasn’t stopped because of the preservation hall jazz society, andy from ropeadope’s belief, and king britts’+ my musical vision to lend to her voice.

this record also includes a song ‘lets make a record’ written by me and my longtime musical cohort+bassist barry meehan. i’m really happy
that barry could be a part of this amazing project with us!
