it’s once again been a great long while since blogging…oh well…too busy frankly to keep up with all the facebook, myspace, twitter, etc…networks out there…but wanted to update on all the music madness going on:
recording
DoubleMoon Remixed 2 will be out in April. This is a remix compilation i took part in with the wonderful folks at DoubleMoon records in Istanbul, Turkey. The album features mixes of course from yours truly vs. baba zula, dj spooky, plaid, and huge assortment of wonderful mixers and mastermind producers. be sure to be on the look out for that one!
Markus Reuter (tuner, centrozoon, U8 touch guitars) was here in Philly at my studio for a few days of working on two of our on-going projects: GoJJo and our soundscape collaboration. We played live on Stars End(on WXPN)last August and some of those bits along with duo & solo studio recordings have been sent over to flautist/saxophonist Theo Travis (gong, robert fripp)in London to add some of his wonderful playing. The GoJJo session was a rough one for me…a struggle. but on playback of video and multitracks is quite amazing. everyone(doug hirlinger, john swana, markus, + tm) stomped it and destroyed it…and we verred off into alot of new territory. really exciting stuff, on the road to a record. we need to play more…some touring is in order.

We’re readying our next 1k release FRACTURED REVERB UNDERGROUND. This is a 10th anniversary re-issue with a brand new cover design packaged in a mini-lp gatefold. This elctronic album went largely under the radar and was ahead of it’s time for 1998…it still sounds fresh—like it could’ve just been recorded. produced by barry meehan + tim motzer. more news on this soon.
Currently i just tracked bowed and scraped electric guitars— on the upcoming Michael Mann film starring Johnny Depp— along with King Britt adding some soundscapes and textures and tensions to a few scenes. Looks like it’s gonna be a great film….stay tuned.
Just finished up three intensive weeks of dance master classes with choregrapher Peggy Baker (toronto) and Dutch Dancers from Anouk van Dijk’s crew: Birgit Gunzl and Philip Moritz. A wonderful 3 weeks of creativity.
Played a Hendrix tribute night with the band Elypsis led by keyboardist John Stenger. The band also featured Jason Fratacelli/upright, and Justin Leigh/traps. it was a fantastic night. i played 1983 and midnight (from war heroes). other guitarists on the night were tim conley, vic baker, and mike kennedy. live on jimi! you can listen on-line here:www.ellipsismakesmusic.com/hendrix.htm
Dance + Theatre classes at University of the Arts: you’ll find me on campus 5 days a week creating scapes and live soundtracks for dance and theatre improv and composition classes with choreographers Manfred Fishbeck and Curt Heyworth. it’s been an amazing and rewarding experience thus far as we continue…
Oscillations Quartet recently played a historic evening at Silk City/Philadelphia that was webcast and is now available as an archive at web.illish.us
be sure to check it out. The quartet features drummer icon Ari Hoenig, Tim Motzer on baritone guitar + guitar synth, John Swana on electronic valve instrument, and London UK bassist Anthony Tidd. Talks are in the works now for a concert/interview dvd that would also feature the Jef Lee Johnson Trio—a band featured that night as well. Oscillations will be back September 12th at Chris Jazz Cafe in Philadelphia.
NUCULTURES next album is also underway. so far have tracked 6 new ellie perez songs. we’re pretty excited about the songs as the album continues to unfold. more to come.
HBO’s True Blood is slated to use one of the Sister Gertrude/King Britt/Tim Motzer songs ‘Power (Voodoo Version) on an upcome episode for Season Two. 🙂
