a wonderful 3 days spent in my old haunts of cincinnati ohio…a reunion with the past…and new friends were to be made. a wonderful reception awaited us at the home of tamara our wonderful hostess for this festival of change. the first evening i gave a clinic on the various uses of all the incredible gear available to those who are aware and want to produce music: live or in the studio. it was well received by ‘the heads’…the others probably wondered what was going on…improv performances with napoleon maddox (dj spooky, iswhat?), and a duo from nyc of poetry + bari sax…some enjoyable moments…and some moments of tremendous laughter. afterwards, visited the r+b cafe with my nephew jef and played some pool…not a bad evening. next day played an in-store at shake it records – one of the best record stores that i’ve ever been in – period. a night off to visit my sister and then to the cincy pubs to celebrate my nephew dan’s 30th which ended somewhere around 4am, as i recall. day 3: a visit to a local breakfast hang with genius author Kathy Wilson at the over the rhine hot spot – alot of action here on the street – and then the market nearby. cincinnati is struggling to keep their fine city together. it has many many rewards. the evening- a very late performance by ursula and myself – and special in that my family was present to witness this beautiful duo that i am apart…and citybeat magazine called me an ” astounding Hamilton-bred guitarist”..not sure what they mean by that, but thanks all the same!
