it's our first live performance proper in front of an enthusiastic audience at the beautiful new location of roulette in brooklyn. the 3 of us travel to new york, and arrive in time to have a nice indian meal before soundcheck. dejha modified a movie screen they have there with spandex scrims augmenting it. it became a giant origami projection surface. the setup was smooth with a great crew for stage and sound. our show was gnarly and haunting some amazing music happened there. musos butch morris and shelly hersh were there as was journalist michael ross (moderne guitar, guitar player magazine). it was nice to meet everyone. here's a clip from the concert.

setup and soundcheck goes very well. i record all of our soundchecks, and thus far, it seems that there's always some magic going on while we are slightly distracted by events around us. for this shoot, ahing will use a jib for one of the cameras...it add's so much. we also each have 'neck cams'. can't wait to see the results. the set and projections look fantastic. hard to believe it's from the 1k studio-the place is transformed. during our performance my 'vintage' drum throne that i am sitting on decided to break, and i am stranded without a seat, and deep in the music...down to my knees ala hendrix. dino was expecting some lighter fluid he told me later, wondering if i always do this sort of thing when i play...eventually, i had to walk off the set to steal a seat from one of our production assistants. A happy night after teardown, we introduced dino to the philadelhia-ethiopean chicken cheese steak at gojjo in west philadelphia. it was a memorable celebration.

today a late sleep followed by a nice breakfast and coffees. we center on setting up for 1k sessions and prepare video clips w dejha by binning them based on qualities of 'too literal' to impressionistic, and what we felt worked best with the music we are exploring. dejha is using modul8 for the video improvisations based on self created video clip archive. one of which is an ink in water that we all love especially slowed down and out of context.

my friend and wonderful music supporter J. Michael Harrison of temple radio's WRTI invited us to his show 'the bridge' as well as his journalism class to talk about our new project and stories of how we got here. dino told some great stories of his time playing with ike and tina turner and his time working with a funk band in LA where he was triggering modular synthesisers with his trombone via pitch to voltage. it was a wonderful experience. bassist anthony tidd joined as well. Mike played some tracks from jon hassels power spot record which dino contributed to in the late 80's that was produced by brian eno and daniel lanois. he also played a 20 min section of music we recorded the following evening. after interviews, we jumped back on the road on 95N to princeton, nj to play our first performance at WPBR-fm one of the US oldest college radio stations. our set was our second time to play and was quite immersive and satisfying to us. dino utilizing his two small amps as 'a short stack'. we were self contained w mics, mixer, laptop to record everything, a very nice portable scenario. afterwards, a roundtable radio interview/discussion with host Mike Hunter, also joining 'the always amped' Darren Bergstein, he former publisher of ei and 1000 pulses electronic-head. a great night there, followed by a late night 'short stack' before heading back to philly around 4am. isn't always?

after airport shuttle action, dino has arrived to fishtown manor aka 1k world hqtrs. after an amazing dinner at kraftwork, we gravitate toward the studio to discuss our setups for our upcoming radio and live performances. it's very detailed and designed right down to the idea of both using small amplifiers for our rigs rather than go direct. for dino's rig he's using a fender mustang 1 (an impressive modeling amp) and my john martin RCA tube amp 10 watt class A. i am using my beloved fender vibrochamp. we also detail a flow for recording our shows multitrack, stereo, and to get a feed to FOH. afterwards, our first time playing and recording is an amazing 50 minute dialogue. we share a language that borders on soundscape, orchestral, gamelon, africa, and noise. our recording sounds wonderful.
